A 12-year-old girl is feared dead and seven others hospitalized after consuming a contaminated meat in in Mbai Farm Village, Kiminini Ward.
Speaking after the incident was the deceased mother Mary Wafula who noted that they received the meat from a neighbour on Thursday without any suspicion that it could be harmful.
Her daughter consumed the meat only to fall sick a few hours later and despite her efforts to get them treatment failed.
“On Thursday, our neighbor’s son offered me some beef. My children had been craving meat, so I prepared it with sukuma wiki for lunch.
By midnight, all five of my children started experiencing severe diarrhea. On Saturday, I got them some medicine, but by Sunday, one of them had passed away.” she said
The father to the deceased also recounted the incident saying that she tried rushing her daughter to the hospital but passed away. The remaining four are currently receiving treatment, including himself as he was prescribed an injection.
“I tried my best to help her through the night, but I couldn’t. I rushed her to Kiminini, but she was already gone,” he said
“The other four children are still in the hospital receiving treatment. Even I was given an injection. It must have been the meat—it was bad.” he continued
Confirming the incident was Mary Mukhwana, a village elder who said that that both health and security officials are investigating the incident.
“One child has died, and several others are hospitalized. About four households consumed the meat, and everyone who ate it has reported stomach pain. We are urging anyone who may have eaten the meat to seek medical attention immediately.” she said
