Police in Mombasa are holding 15 suspects following a theft incident that happened on Sunday morning at the Likoni Ferry crossing.
The suspects are part of a gang that is accused of attacking those queued at the channel at 2am ready to cross to the other side after attending a festival at the nearby Mama Ngina grounds.
At the time of the incident, not only was the group of revelers but also those at the roadside disrupting transport activities at the channel before the police were called.

On social media, the event is alleged to have occurred after one of the ferries developed mechanical issues on the other end of the channel. Injuries were also confirmed caused by one of the ferry’s doors.
“Happening now at the Likoni crossing Channel. A thousand plus people stuck as one of the 2 big ferries broke down on one end. 2 people fatally injured with their legs and arms broken by the ferry’s door. The injured victims rushed to the Coast General Hospital.” said Dark Visuals on X
