At least 43 youths have been arrested in Isiolo over the weekend following a crackdown launched by security agents in the country.
Confirming the news was the County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding who told media stations that the crackdown targeted drug peddlers, muggers, and illicit alcohol dealers in the county and even those found loitering at night.
Geoffrey continued by revealing that the operation will continue in the coming days even though it has drawn criticism online over its timing and the individuals arrested so far.

The criticism follows a video of President William Ruto who was heckled in Isiolo during his working tour of the county where he warned that there is no place for drug users in the county and that they will not scare the Kenyan government.
“I am aware that drug dealers have sent the youth to come and cause a disturbance at this meeting. Be warned young people, you cannot threaten the government. A foreigner cannot come and turn Isiolo into a drug den,” he said
It took the intervention of Governor Abdi Guyo to calm the crowd as he demanded respect to the Head of State. President William Ruto was allowed to continue with his speech.
Even though reports suggest that the arrest was due to the heckling but Omoding noted that t was directive by President William Ruto to arrest those trafficking drugs.
Confirming the arrests was LSK President Faith Odhiambo who noted that his ream was following up on the matter.
“Mohamed Kheir, Gollo Kashane, Denis Kikuvi, Harrison Mwaniki, and Mohammed Abdullahi were arrested yesterday in Isiolo Town and detained at DCI offices until late in the evening.
We are yet to ascertain more information from our advocates working at Isiolo Town. There was a larger number of over 40 arrested but (we are) waiting for feedback on the status,” she said
