An Administration Police (AP) officer is feared dead after he was shot by a colleague in Mbooni West,Makueni County.
Hassan Ahmed, the officer attached to the Critical Infrastructure Police Unit (CIPU) was fatally injured by Constable Anthony Mariapei when on duty as confirmed by Mbooni West Deputy County Commissioner.
The station which is meters away from the DCC’s office was marred with gunshots which alerted other officers who rushed to the scene to get a glimpse of what was happening.

“It is then that they found a police officer in APS uniform and a G3 rifle beside him squatting. On trying to talk to him, it was realized that the officer was bleeding on the left side of the ribs.” read a police report
Further examination revealed that the deceased sustained gunshot wound that took away his life. Shortly after the incident, Constable Anthony Mariapei presented himself to the police station where he is being held.
“After a short while APC Anthony Mariapei an officer attached to CIPU Mbooni West and who was on night guard duty at the DCC’s office surrendered at Mbooni police station claiming that he had shot No.237720 APC Hassan Ahmed using G3 s/no A3 J54444 issued to him.” read a police report
The motive of the incident is yet to be established as the police confirmed being on possession of both G3 rifles belonging to the officers.
“The motive of the murder is not yet established. The accused officer has been placed in cells pending investigations. Both G3 rifles loaded with 18 rounds and 20 rounds issued to both the accused and deceased officers respectively, have been detained as exhibits pending ballistic examinations.” said the police
