The Archdiocese of Nairobi will refund donations made the Governor of Nairobi Johnson Sakaja and President William Ruto citing violation of the law.
Through a statement, the church noted that the such donations require permit in accordance with the Public Fundraising Appeals Bill 2024 and since they did not have the requisite documents then it was unlawful.
According to the church, they will refund the Governor’s Ksh 200,000 donation to the parish choir and Parish Missionary Choir (PMC), Ksh 600,000 and Ksh 2 million donation made by the President to the choir, PMC and to the construction of the Father’s house respectively.
In addition to the refund, they have also declined a further Ksh 3 million promise by the President toward the construction of the father’s house.
“Politicians are most welcomed to attend Church for their spiritual nourishment, but they are encouraged to do so as ordinary Christians without leveraging their positions for political gain.” read the letter
