A goal from Gabriel Martinelli ended Arsenal’s 12th losing streak against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at Emirates Stadium.
The Sunday clash which was to end Mikel Arteta’s unbeaten run in the Premier League was short of some talented players like Bukayo Saka who was sidelined after picking up a knock.
Thomas Partey and Gabriel Martinelli were in the bench as the Gunners pressed the City attack strategy that has clearly been read by Arteta as at now.
- Paul Pogba once again tests positive for doping
- Arsenal and Manchester United beaten in the Champions League
City went close to scoring in the first half but Declan Rice cleared the ball in the line as Raya made a number of short passes and late clearances with one almost falling in the legs of Alvarez.
Haaland was closely marked by Saliba as Manchester City lacked Kevin De Bruyne’s magic to break the Arsenal defense.
The introduction of Martinelli, Thomas Partey Kai Havertz and Tomiyasu changed the clash completely taking the ball to their opponents.
It was in the 86th minute when Martinelli’s strike hit the head of Nathan Ake into the back of City net. The results take Arsenal to second position with 20 points and level with Liverpool. Manchester City is third with 18 points.
