La Dea caused all sorts of problems for Xabi Alonso’s side and they were made to pay again when Lookman fired a right-footed strike that went at the bottom of the net doubling the lead.
Álex Grimaldo almost pulled one for Bayer after he picked the ball from Florian Wirtz but sent it direct to Juan Musso. In the remaining part of the first half, Alonso’s side failed to get things going on his side.
In the second half, Lookman extinguished any hopes for Leverkusen finishing off a Gianluca Scamacca’s assist by sending the ball from the left hand side. The trophy was the first on for Gasperini who has already earned his respect in football.
