The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) has on Thursday rubbished proposal to increase the Presidential term limit to seven years to five years.
“There are plans to rush the bill through legislation. A two-term limit of 10 years is adequate, we should scrutinize this political move,” they said
This follows a proposal by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei to amend Article 136 of the Constitution that not only increase the term limit of the President but also that of the governors and Members of Parliament (MPs).

According to the Bishops, the government should focus on other important mattes such as education, healthcare system and the high unemployment rate among the youth in the country.
They continued by saying that the proposal amounts to greed among the political leaders and its impact keeps bringing down the trust Kenyans have on President William Ruto.
“It seems to be a hidden way of reintroduction the rejected Finance Bill 2024, we should listen to the cry of Kenyans,” they said
Police Inspector General Douglas Kanja already denied police involvement in the vice saying that they only make legal arrest and detain the suspects at police stations as required by law.
The Catholic Bishops join other organizations including the Human Rights activists who have condemned the violation of human rights, abduction and freedom of speech as revealed day in day out.
Also addressed was the high number of femicide cases in the country which stand at 97 women so far killed in the last three months according to the police.
