Changamwe based DCI officer arrested over Ksh 20K bribe

EACC detectives have arrested a DCI officer based at Changamwe police station for demanding a Ksh 20,000 bribe in order to compromise an ongoing investigation.

Sgt. Thomas Nahashon Kibet had allegedly received Ksh 10,000 from the complaint who happens to have allegedly been involved in the criminal case.

“EACC has arrested and arraigned Sgt. Thomas Nahashon Kibet, a DCI Officer based at Changamwe Police Station in Mombasa County, for soliciting and receiving a bribe from the complainant as an inducement to terminate a criminal case in which the complainant was allegedly involved.

The suspect was arrested on Thursday after ODPP_KE concurred with the Commission’s recommendation to charge him. He was held at Port Police Station pending arraignment on Friday.

The suspect was charged that on the 6th day of June 2018, at Changamwe Police Station, within Mombasa County in the Republic of Kenya, being a person employed by a Public body to wit, National Police Service as a Corporal, DCI officer, he requested a financial advantage of Kes20,000 and received an initial amount of Kes10,000 from the complainant with the intent that in consequence, he would compromise an investigation leading to the termination of the complaint’s criminal case.” said EACC

The accused denied all charges after he presented before Mombasa Chief Magistrate Hon. Alex Ithuku. He was however granted Ksh 300,000 bond or an alternative cash bail of Ksh 100,000.

“Appearing before Mombasa Chief Magistrate Hon. Alex Ithuku, the accused person denied all the charges and was released on a bond of Kes300,000 or Kes100,000 cash bail. The matter will be mentioned on 10th February 2025.” said EACC
