Two late goals by Cole Palmer gave Chelsea a 4-3 win over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night.
Both Chelsea and Manchester United came into the clash after dropping points against Burnley and Brentford respectively and were on a path of redemption even though their European supremacy was dwindling throughout the season.
It was Chelsea who struck first when Conor Gallagher‘s strike went below Onana’s hands in the fourth minute of the clash. Palmer doubled the lead from the penalty spot after Marc Cucurella was brought down by Anthony.
Just when the home fans were celebrating, Caicedo sent a blind pass in the path of Alejandro Garnacho who ruthlessly sent it past Đorđe Petrović reviving the hopes of the Red Devils.
Bruno Fernandes leveled for the visitors five minutes later when his header from Diogo Dalot’s cross went past Petrovic.
In the second half it was Anthony’s moment of redemption when his assist found Garnacho who sent the ball past the goalkeeper. In the extra time, Palmer netted a quick double one from the penalty spot and the second went past Onana.
The win sent Chelsea to 10th position with 43 points as Manchester United retained the 6th position with 48 points from 30 matches played.
