Two women linked to the deadly brew in Kirinyaga will remain in custody for 14 days as police complete there investigation into the incident.
Issuing the order was Baricho Law Courts which approved a miscellaneous application by the prosecution to detain Lydia Wanjiru Mbokothe and Jane Wambui Munywauki so as to compile a concreate case against them.
“The Baricho Law Courts has today allowed a miscellaneous application by the prosecution seeking to have Lydia Wanjiru Mbokothe and Jane Wambui Munywauki detained for 14 days at Kiamaciri police station in connection with the deaths of two people who died on 7th February, 2024, due to the consumption of illicit liquor at Kanjogu, Mwea-Sub County, to allow the police to conclude their investigations.

It is alleged that the deceased Franklin Gitandu Gatimu (48 years) and Nicholas Maina Kamonde (60 years) lost their lifes after consuming the suspected illicit brew from the said Muiguru Bar, an establishment owned by the suspects
The matter is scheduled to be mentioned on 7th March, 2024.” said ODPP
Even though the case is under investigation, several people are yet to regain their eye sight causing pain to families who depend on the victims for their daily bread.
It was also revealed that the brew sold on that fateful day had been stored as exhibit at Kiamaciri police station before it was released and sold to the Carlifonia bar where the victims consumed it.
Already four police officers linked to the case have been arrested and senior police bosses in the region have been transferred under the order of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
