Energy CS Davis Chirchir has broken his silence over Sunday’s nationwide blackout blaming poor investment as the cause of the incident.
Speaking on Monday, Chirchir noted that there was shortage of water at Masinga dam and that the government has not invested properly in generating more power.
On Sunday, an overload was witnessed along the Kisumu-Muhoroni power line causing a tip off which caused the nationwide blackout as confirmed by the CS.

“There was sudden demand and the line is dimensioned to carry 80Mw. When the line went down it was carrying 120Mw and suddenly there was a demand for an additional 20Mw on that line,” he said
The results of the overload was dependency of power from Olkaria power station which also experienced an overload.
According to the CS, the government needs to set up additional power lines that will supply power across Western Kenya that is from Narok and Bomet connecting Awendo thus reducing the power load.
The statement comes hours after the country experienced its third nationwide blackout in three months raising questions over the governance of the country. JKIA was once again affected.
