Deputy President Rigathi Gachgua was on Tuesday impeached from office by the National Assembly.
This is after the motion tabled before the house by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse secured the support of 281 MPs as four voted against it and only one abstained from the process.

Among the charges levelled against the Deputy President include gross violation of the Constitution, undermining the President and the Cabinet, undermining Devolution, committing economic crimes, spreading false, malicious, divisive, and inciteful remarks, publicly insubordinating the President and making inciteful remarks.
Other charges include bullying State and public officers and ompromising judicial independence by publicly attacking a judge.
Appearing before Parliament, Gachagua termed the allegations outrageous and baseless before a vote was conducted at the floor of the house.
Now that the motion has passed Parliament, it will now move to the Senate where it will also need the support of atleast two-thirds of the Senators before a final decision is made on the matter.
