Disney sued over Moana and Moana 2 for stealing elements from animator

Disney is being sued over Moana and Moana 2 for allegedly stealing elements of the film from an animator’s screenplay.

The case which has been filled at California federal court by animator Buck Woodall claims that Disney stole part of the film from his project called Bucky which he produced back in the 2000’s.

Buck now seeks damages of $10 billion saying that he produced the screenplay and trailer of Bucky and even shared the details to Jenny Marchick who is the former Films director of development of Mandeville back in 2003.

According to court documents Mr. Marchick is said to have requested for materials like production plans, character designs and storyboards and assured Woodall that he will get him a greenlight.

It will be noted that both films Bucky and Moana have the same story line where the teenagers defy parental advise and embark on a mission to Polynesian waters to save the endangered land.

The similarities are also seen in Moana where “Moana and her crew are sucked into a perilous whirlpool-like oceanic portal, another dramatic and unique device-imagery found in plaintiff’s materials that could not possibly have been developed by chance or without malicious intentions.” read the court documents.

Mr. Woodall had initially tried to sue Disney back in November but  US district judge Consuelo Marshall said that it was too late as the film had been produced back in 2016.
