DP Rigathi Gachagua’s office seek 1.12B for renovations

The office of the Deputy President RIgathi Gachagua is seeking Ksh 1.12 billion to renovate both his Karen residence and the Harambee Annex office.

According to the office of the Deputy President, the two offices are old and dilapilated thus the need for renovations as included in the 2023/24 budget.

Speaking before the National Assembly Committee on Administration and National Security was Patrick Mwangi, an officer from the DP’s office who noted that Harambee Annex offices will Ksh.460.4 million for renovations and the Karen residence will require 660 million.

“The continuous lack of maintenance has necessitated a face lift targeting major functional areas and security systems of the building,” he said

The expenses were however questioned by the MP’s who sought to understand why the huge expenses when the government is seeking to cut expenditure in public offices.

“Please tell us more about the renovations of the said offices because we have seen an allocation of Ksh.300.4 million. I know we have a few issues there like lifts not working but this figure is too big yet the building is not even ten years old,” said Narok West MP Gabriel Tongoyo.

The office is also seeking Ksh 250 million to fund the ongoing war against alcohol and substance abuse by the Deputy President and wife Pastor Dorcas Rigathi.
