A drunk police officer from Zambia released thirteen suspects from custody so as to go and celebrate the new year as confirmed by officials.
The police officer identified as Titus Phiri is accused of releasing the suspects from Leonard Cheelo police station in Lusaka before running away. He has however been arrested
All 13 suspects are still on the run as a manhunt has been launched. They are accused of committing crimes such as assault, robbery and burglary.

Addressing the media was police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga who said that Phiri was intoxicated at the time and had seized the keys holding the suspects from one Serah Banda on new year’s eve.
“Subsequently, detective inspector Phiri unlocked both the male and female cells and instructed the suspects to leave, stating they were free to cross over into the new year,” said Rae
“Out of the 15 suspects in custody, 13 escaped. Following the incident, the officer fled the scene.” he continued
