Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has suspended all kidney transplants at all Mediheal Group facilities with immediate effect.
Speaking to the media, the CS addressed the serious allegation surrounding the hospitals after multiple reports of illegal kidney transplants being conducted.

Duale also called on the establishment of a special committee tasked with the audit all kidney transplant procedures conducted at Mediheal over the past five years and suspension of Dr. Maurice Wakwabubi (Ag. Head, KBTTS) and Dr. Everlyne Chege (technical lead of a 2023 probe) to pave way for investigation.
He also confirmed the appointment of Dr. Martin Sirengo as interim head of KBTTS to ensure continuity and oversight during the audit process.
The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has also been instructed to immediately halt new registrations and conduct a full audit of all currently licensed foreign practitioners and handover a report in 90 days.
“These measures are necessary to restore order, enforce accountability and reinforce ethical and professional standards within the health sector.
The Ministry will not tolerate practices that undermine the safety and dignity of patients.” said Duale
The news follows a revelation by a number of victims of the hospital who claimed to have been promised huge sums of money to undertake the proceedure only for the to received way below it.
