Embakasi East MP Babu Owino released on Ksh 100K cash bail

Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has been released on Ksh 100,000 following his arrest over the ongoing anti-government protests.

Issuing the ruling was Magistrate Lukas Onyina who noted that the prosecution has provided no reason as to why the Legislator should be denied bail. Babu Owino had been arrested alongside six others.

The Magistrate continued by taking note that the prosecution had also failed to give sufficient reason as to how the accused would interfere with the investigation.

The MP together with Tom Odongo, Michael Otieno, Calvina Okoth popularly known as Gaucho, Pascal Ouma, Kevin Wambo and Willys Owino denied the charges.

The news comes a day after the MP was presented to court following his dramatic arrest at JKIA on Tuesday.

Efforts by his family to locate him led them to Wang’uru police station before demanding his unconditional release or arraignment in court if the state has a case against him.

According to his wife, Fridah Ongili, Babu Owino had been feeling unwell and has not eaten anything after his arrest. Her attempts to give him food and medicine was turned down by the police.
