EPRA boss Daniel Kiptoo summoned for disobeying Finance Act orders

The court has summoned Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) Director General Daniel Kiptoo for disobeying orders on the controversial Finance Act 2023.

Issuing the orders, the court is seeking a show cause from Kiptoo as to why the he should not be held in contempt for defying orders issued by Justice Mugure Thande who suspended the Finance Act 2023.

High Court Justice Mugure Thande suspended the bill that blocked the implementation of 16% VAT on fuel from the 8%.

The contempt of court application was filled by Busia Senator Okiyah Omtatah who has been leading in challenging the bill that its conservatory orders have been lifted.

Employees will have to tighten their belts as the government has instructed employers to backdate the Housing Levy to July 1st meaning that employees will be deducted a total of 3%.
