Former Assistant Inspector General of Police Zachary King’ori has passed away on Sunday as confirmed by his family.
King’ori is reported to have been receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital where his health deteriorated leading to his death.
The family further confirmed that the former police boss had recently undergone surgery but his health worsened. They will be issuing an update on the burial plans at a later date.

“We wish to inform the public of the death of Mr. Kingori Mwangi, a retired police officer. Kingori passed on this morning at a Nairobi hospital where he was receiving treatment. The family will update the public on the burial plans,” they said
The former police chief was replaced by Japheth Koome in 2018 and was later transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he worked until his retirement.
Other positions that King’ori has served include the director of operations at police headquarters, police spokesman, director of Kenya Police Campus in Kiganjo and principal assistant.
In 2021, the former police chief made headlines when his car killed two pedestrians for allegedly driving on the wrong side of the wrong. The matter was discussed and confirmed that it was an accident as he tried to avert it but failed.
