Former Sports CS Rashid Echesa has been arrested for allegedly blackmailing Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa.
The Thursday arrest will see the former CS spend the weekend at Muthaiga Police Station where he is currently being held pending arraignment in court come Tuesday 2nd April, 2024.
Speaking to the media was Echesa’s lawyer Danstan Omari who said that the former CS is facing alleged extortion, cybercrime bullying, and stage-managing an abduction.

Following his arrested, Echesa was taken to DCI headquarters on Kiambu road where he was grilled for hours before his eventual detention.
His lawyer expressed frustration from the police who he accused of not giving them details of how much he extorted and from who.
“Hayo mambo yote hakuna ambapo tunaambiwa ni pesa ngapi alizozipata na kutoka kwa nani, hakuna mlalamishi katika hii kesi.
Mawazo mengine ni kwamba yeye ndiye aliyeshtaki mara ya kwanza, lakini sasa yeye ndiye ameshtakiwa hapa. Hata akama ni Easter, kesho tutafanya application kuenda kortini aweze kuachiliwa.” said Omari
