Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, his wife and 11 others have a case to answer over Ksh 588 million irregular roads tender graft charges.
“Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Ndung’u Waititu, his wife Susan Wangari and 11 others have a case to answer in the Ksh588 million irregular roads tender graft charges.” said DPP
Milimani Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzyoki noted that the case filed by prosecution is solid enough to put the accused on defense.
“In his ruling, Milimani Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzyoki said that the court determined that the prosecution established a prima facie case against the accused persons to warrant them to be placed on their defense.
The prosecution, led by Victor Mule, Joseph Riungu, Faith Mwila, Linda Mwamburi and Delroy Mwasaru closed the prosecution case by calling a total of thirty-two (32) witnesses and producing 741 exhibits in the case.” said DPP
Waititu and his co-accused are facing 11 counts including conflict of interest, dealing with suspect property, abuse of office, willful failure to comply with laws relating to procurement, engaging in fraudulent practices in procurement, fraudulent acquisition of public properties and money laundering.
“Waititu and the co-accused persons are facing 11 counts of charges, including 1 count of conflict of interest, 3 counts of dealing with suspect property, 1 count of abuse of office, and 1 count of willful failure to comply with laws relating to procurement, 2 counts of engaging in fraudulent practices in procurement, 1 count of fraudulent acquisition of public properties and 2 counts of money laundering.
The defense hearing is scheduled for 19th to 21st March 2024 with the pre-trial on the defense case slated for 16/11/2023″ said DPP
