Former Migori Governor Okoth Obado is set to defend himself in April after the DPP found sufficient evidence to charge him and his aides in the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.
Prosecution led by atherine Mwaniki, Gikui Gichui, Allen Mulama, and Bessie Gikonyo presented a total of 42 witnesses and a journalist back in June who placed the accused on defense side.
“Following the court ruling that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had established a prima facie case against the former county boss and his aides Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero over the murder of the late Rongo University student Sharon Otieno, former Migori Governor Okoth Obado is set to defend himself in April, a hearing scheduled to run from 23rd April 2025 to 25th April 2025.

The court’s decision to place the accused on their defense comes after the prosecution, led by Catherine Mwaniki, Gikui Gichui, Allen Mulama, and Bessie Gikonyo, concluded its case in June 2024 after presenting 42 witnesses, including a journalist.
The former governor informed Lady Justice Cecilia Githua that he intends to give sworn evidence in his defense. He further told the court that he will also present two witnesses during the hearing.
His co-accused, Oyamo and Obiero are scheduled to present their defenses from May 19 to May 23, 2025.
Obado, Oyamo, and Obiero are charged with the murder of Sharon Otieno on the night of September 3, 2018, in a forest within Homa Bay County.” said DPP
