Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga has on Tuesday been released on Ksh 100,000 cash bail after pleading not guilty to charges levelled against him.
His release comes barely five days after he was arrested at his father’s home together with brother and personal assistant.
“John Maina Njenga, Peter Njoroge Kamunya, Felix Ratu Lakishe: On the 20th day of July 2023 at Kiserian area within Kajiado County jointly organized an unlawful assembly and procession scheduled to take place within Nairobi City County and other parts within the Republic of Kenya,” said prosecution

Maina Njenga who was never to be seen after the arrest was moved from one police station to the other as his family their search.
According to the officers, they recovered a number of weapons believed could be used to cause chaos following the anti-government protests that had been called by the opposition.
On Monday the court declined to release him claiming that his life is in danger if released before setting bail hearing date for Tuesday 25th July, 2023.
Njenga is among key opposition leaders and members who have been accused various offences related to the demonstrations.
