Former Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte has been arrested by the country’s national police over alleged crimes against humanity.
Duterte has been under investigation by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for the thousand of people killed during his brutal war on drugs waged when he was mayor of Davao City and later as the President back in 2016.
The former President was arrested on Thursday at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and taken into custody as revealed by various local media stations.
Atleast 300 people are reported to have died during his war on drugs and before his arrest, he had been placed under Red Notice alert by International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).
A day before his arrest, Philippine National Police (PNP) had been informed of his pending arrest warrant that was to happen immediately he landed in the country.
