The government through the Ministry of Education has released Ksh 3.32 billion to first and second year university students.
Confirming the news was Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba who noted that the funds will be distributed through HELB.

The news comes a day after students from the University of Nairobi staged demonstration demanding the release of the funds. The students moved to HELB offices at Anniversary towers where they were promised that the funds will be transferred using the old model.
Account to the Lending manager the delay was caused by a court order that halted disbursement until a case before them on the new funding model is heard and determined.
Since the introduction of the new funding model, students have been decrying about how unfair the model is especially to needy students who stand to lose if placed under the wrong band.
Kenyans have also raised questions as to why the government could not correct the wrongs under the old funding model and keep it going.
