Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir has issued a stern warning to illegal gas traders in the county.
The Governor was speaking after conducting an inspection of such businesses in Nyali and Mvita where he said that traders in the business must comply with NEMA, EPRA and the fire department.
“Kufuatia ukaguzi na Msako wa jana niliofanya pamoja na mashirika husika jana katika Kaunti ndogo za Mvita na Nyali, hii leo nimetoa onyo kali kwa wahusika wote dhidi ya kuichukulia kiholela Kaunti ya Mombasa na kusisitiza kamwe hawataruhusiwa kuendesha biashara ya gesi pasi na kuwa na vibali halisi vinne.

Vibali hivyo ni kutoka kwa Mamlaka inayosimamia Mazingira nchini NEMA, Shirika la kusawazisha kawi na Petroli nchini,EPRA, Cheti kutoka kwa idara ya Wazima moto ya Kaunti na cheti cha biashara yaani Single Business permit.
Nilikuwa nikizungumza na wanahabari afisini mwangu mapema hii leo nikiandamana na Katibu mkuu wa Kaunti Jeizan Farouq, Mawaziri wa kaunti wa Biashara Mohammed Osman, Fedha Evans Oyando, Barabara na Muundo Msingi Dan Manyala, Maji Emily Achieng, Afisa mkuu Ali Shariff na Mkuu wa Idara ya Wazima moto Ibrahim Basafar.”” he said
The statement follows the tragic Miradi area explosion in Embakasi where the government has been faulted for allowing such a plant to operate within a densely populated residential area.
So far, the owner of the gas plant, the manager of the plant and three NEMA officials have been arrested and arraigned in court.
