Governor Kawira Mwangaza impeached by Meru MCAs

Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has on Wednesday been impeached by Members of the County Assembly (MCA).

All the 59 MCAs voted in support of the impeachment motion that was tabled before the assembly a day after a public participation drive was conducted.

The motion was first presented by Majority leader Evans Mawira who together with other MCAs accused the Governor of a number of things including abuse of office and neglect of their needs.

Other allegations include misappropriation of funds, nepotism and naming a road after his husband who is the head of youth affairs in the county.

This is the second time Governor Kawira Mwangaza has been impeached. In the first impeachment, the Governor had the full backing of those allied to Kenya Kwanza especially the Senators who vowed to save her before the Senate.

A bitter atmosphere continued between the Governor and the MCAs but this time around she had the backing of Mount Kenya leaders including Council of Governors chairperson Anne Waiguru.

Her recent Okolea program attracted the attention of Interior CS Prof. Kithure Kindiki who termed it illegal. She blamed the recent misfortunes to her political opponents.
