Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has been impeached by the Senate following a late night motion approved by the Kenya Kwanza leadership.
“Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot moves a motion on the proposed removal from office, by impeachment, of Honourable Kawira Mwangaza, the Governor of Meru County. Motion seconded by Sen. Nderitu Kinyua.” said the Senate

A total of three charges including gross violation of the constitution, abuse of office and gross misconduct were leveled against the embattled Governor who fell short of the numbers to block her impeachment.
On the charge of gross violation of the constitution and gross misconduct, a total of 26 Senators voted in favor of it with 2 Senators and 1 respectively not approving with the charges. A total of 14 Senators abstained from the vote.
“The Senate has resolved to remove from office by impeachment Hon. Kawira Mwangaza, the Governor of Meru County, and the Governor accordingly ceases to hold office,” said Speaker Amason Kingi
The order of business did not end there but the fight continued after the voting exercise but Governor Kawira Mwangaza will now have to take the battle to the court.
