Gov’t to disburse Ksh 48.8B to schools, reveals CS Mbadi

Treasury CS John Mbadi has revealed that the government will distribute Ksh 48.8 billion to all schools across the country.

Speaking from Kakamega County on Friday, Mbadi noted that the delay in the disbursement of the funds was due to debt financing by the government.

“School administrators don’t panic, Treasury will release Ksh.48.8 billion which is 50 per cent of this year’s budget to fund our education system. We believe our education is important for our social function,” he said

The news comes a day after the Kenya Union of post-primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) issued a seven days ultimatum to the government to either release the funds or paralyze education in the country.

According to the union, schools are struggling to settle previous pending bills caused by previous delay in receiving the same funds. They were speaking as they predicted the paralysis of activities in schools.
