Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has revealed that over 300 luxury brands including Gucci have shown interest in the Kenyan market.
Speaking from his official residence in Karen, Nairobi, Kindiki noted that Kenanie Leather Industrial Park in Mavoko, Machakos County will process hides and skins to premium leather goods such as bags, shoes and accessories.
He was speaking during a consultative meeting with leaders from Isiolo where he promised that the industry will increase its annual revenue from 10 million to 150 million.

“Industries that use leather to make leather products are now angling to set up shop in Kenanie. We have over 300 applicants in the expression of interest including top-notch global leather product companies like Gucci which make designer bags… they want to come and set up there. That is how you transform a country,” he said
“You don’t transform a country by throwing hate, division and tribalism. You develop a country by saying ‘how do you transform the resources that God has given us into the wealth and distribute it to many people, especially those at the bottom of the pyramid.’” he continued
According to the Deputy President once the Kenanie industrial park is complete then the demand will of hides and skin will increase thus pushing the prices higher.
“It is going to offtake all the hides and skins from Kenya. Demand will not be enough. Price of hides and skins will go up,” he said
As things stand, final touches are underway including road tarmacking and power upgrades to ensure that it is up and running by the end of the year.
