HELB disburses Ksh 1.56B to 33,863 university students

The government through the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has disbursed Ksh 1.56 billion to students and trainees for tuition and upkeep.

A total of 31,263 TVET trainees and 33,863 university students will benefit from the disbursement with those qualified to benefit to receive notification through HELB official channel.

According to the Ministry of Education, a total of 32.7 billion has been disbursed in the 2024/2025 financial year and has benefited 195,522 TVET trainees and 390,612 students so far.

”On Friday, 14th March 2025, the Higher Education Loans Board [HELB] disbursed Ksh1.56 billion to students and trainees for tuition and upkeep. A total of 31,263 TVET trainees and 33,863 university students benefitted from these loan disbursements.

The latest disbursement means that in the current Financial Year 2024/2025, HELB has disbursed a total of Ksh32.7 billion in upkeep and tuition loans to 195,522 trainees in TVET institutions and 390,612 students in universities.” read the statement

The Ministry assured Kenyans that they will continue to provide financial support to university students as well as TVET trainees so that they can attain there academic and training goals.

The news comes at a time when President William Ruto directed HELB to disburse the funding and that students were to receive it within 24 hours.
