The High Court has issued orders temporarily halting the ouster of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza who was impeached by the Senate.
Through her lawyer Eliud Mutuma, Mwangaza raised legal questions by the Senate to arrive to the decision to impeach her.
The lawyer also sort to understand as to how the Senate could impeach her yet it was not gazetted to conduct such order of business on that particular day.

According to the court orders, the Speaker of the Senate should not declare the seat vacant until when the matter before court is heard and determined.
“Pending the inter partes hearing and determination of the Application dated 21/08/2024, a conservatory order be and is hereby issued staying the furtherance or the implementation of the Resolution of the Senate removing the Governor of Meru County, Hon. Kawira Mwangaza, from Office by way of impeachment,” said the High Court
The Court now expected those mentioned in the case to file a response by August 28th and the Governor file a rejoinder on September 4th.
The news follows a late night vote conducted at the Senate where a total of 26 Senators voted in support of the three charges levelled against the Governor.
