Ian Njoroge charged with robbery with violence in police assault case

Ian Njoroge, a 19-year-old university student accused with assaulting a police officer has been charged with robbery with violence.

Appearing before before Milimani Court Principal Magistrate Hon. Ben Mark Ekhubi, Ian is accused of stealing Samsung Galaxy Note 1 valued at Ksh. 50,000 together with his accomplices who were not in court.

After the alleged robbery, he also left the police officer identified as CPL Jacob Ogendo with bodily harm leading to his admission at Mama Lucy Kibaki hospital.

“A 19-year-old University Student, has today been charged before Milimani Court Principal Magistrate Hon. Ben Mark Ekhubi for an offense of robbery with violence contrary to Section 296(2) of the Penal Code.

The court heard that on the 2nd day of June 2024, at Kamiti Road in Kasarani Sub-County, Nairobi, Ian Ngige Njoroge jointly with others not before court robbed No 67839 CPL Jacob Ogendo a battery of police communication gadget and a mobile phone make Samsung Galaxy Note 1 valued at Ksh. 50,000 and immediately at the time of such robbery wounded the said No 67839 CPL Jacob Ogendo.

He was also charged with two additional counts, including resisting arrest contrary to section 253(b) of the Penal Code and causing grievous harm contrary to Section 234 of the Penal Code. Ian pleaded not guilty to all charges in court. The Prosecution, represented by Ms. Virginia Kariuki, objected to his release on bail.” said ODPP
