Ian Njoroge, 19-year-old university student charged with assaulting a police officer has been released on Ksh 700,000 cash bail.
According to the ODPP, Ian Njoroge should not be released on bail as he posses as a flight risk and stands to interfere with the witnesses.

“Ian Njoroge, the 19-year-old captured on video assaulting a police officer in Kasarani has been released on a bond of Kshs. 700,000 without an alternative of cash bail.
The prosecution had earlier opposed his release on bail/bond citing the seriousness of the crime committed, the fact that the suspect was a flight risk, and the likelihood of interfering with witnesses.
The court considered the seriousness of the offence, especially attacking a police officer in uniform. Ian is facing three charges, including robbery with violence, assault causing grevious bodily harm, resisting arrest, and other charges in the traffic court.
The matter will be mentioned for pretrial and directions on 25/6/2024.” said ODPP
