It was business unusual at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after workers downed their tools in protest of the JKIA-Adani group deal.
The strike follows a notice issued by the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) in protest of the deal that will see the Indian company take control of the airport for a period of 30 years.
Through its Secretary General Moss Ndiema, KAWU noted that the deal will cause mass layoffs, bad working conditions as well as the introduction of foreigners.

The workers have since called for the resignation of Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) Board of Directors as well as that of three senior managers who they accuse of being part of the deal.
The Airport workers also accused two KQ security managers at the busy airport of human trafficking, gross misconduct, sexual harassment and unfair promotions.
Despite issuing the strike notice, KAWU noted that no significant efforts have been made thus downing their tools until when the deal is called off.
