Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has come to the defense of alleged deforestation of Karura Forest as shared on social media.
“There are claims on social media platforms that the ongoing removal of exotic trees species from Karura Forest is forest destruction. This cannot be further from the truth.
Kenya Forest Service (KFS) would like to assure the public and visitors of Karura Forest that what is going on is a normal plantation management activity which involves harvesting of mature exotic plantation species as per the Karura Forest Participatory Forest Management Plan (PFMP)” said KFS

Through a statement, the state agency noted that it is true that exotic trees are being brought down but it is a normal plantation management activity which involves harvesting mature exotic trees as outlined in the Karura Forest Participatory Forest Management Plan (PFMP).
They continued by sating that the procedure is a normal one which will see a gradual removal of exotic trees in the indigenous forest.
According to Kenya Forest Service, the begun six years ago but was stopped after the government imposed a ban on logging, but since it was lifted then the exercise has begun once again.
