The Kenya Met Department has on Saturday issued a heavy rainfall alert that is set to affect most parts of the country from 9th March 2025.
The affected counties include Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Homa Bay, Siaya, Migori, Busia, Kisumu, Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West Pokot, Turkana, Marsabit, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Nairobi, Machakos, Kajiado.

The state agency has also issued a safety advisory that includes need to be on the look out for for floods, flash floods & poor visibility, avoiding void sheltering under trees or near grilled windows (lightning risk) and drivers to watch out for slippery roads & reduced visibility.
It is yet to been seen how the government will respond to the alert given previous experiences where resources were not adequately provided causing havoc in many parts of the country.
Kenyans in affected areas are also expected to act swiftly and avoid last minute losses and loss of lives with many incidents occurring at night.
