Kenya met dep’t issues 7 days warning of heavy downpours

The Kenya Met department has on Monday issued a seven day notice of heavy downpours in several parts of the country.

Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Rift Valley, Southeast lowlands, Coast, Northeast, and Northwest regions should expect heavy downpours and potential flooding from April 2nd to 8th 2024.

“Expect widespread rainfall across the country, with heavy downpours forecasted for Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Rift Valley, Southeast lowlands, Coast, Northeast, and Northwest regions. Stay prepared 4 potential flooding in these areas.

High Temperatures Alert! Some counties, including Turkana, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Isiolo, Garissa, Tana River, Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa, and Kwale, will experience high average daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C. Stay hydrated Warm Nights Ahead.

Night-time temperatures are expected to remain high, surpassing 25°C, particularly along the Coast and in Northeastern Kenya.” saod Kenya Met department.

The news follows already heavy rainfall in parts of the country including Nairobi which has already claimed the lives of 11 people and displaced others.

Residents in the affected areas have called on the government assistance to provide them with basic needs and retrieve the bodies of those trapped in the rivers.
