Kenya Space Agency confirms source of space object that landed at Mukuku Village

Kenya Space Agency has addressed the recent incident where a space object fell from the skies and landed at Mukuku Village, Makueni County.

Through a statement, the agency noted that the metallic object that measures approximately 2.5 meters in diameter and weighing approximately 500kg is indeed a space object with preliminary assessment revealing that it is a separation ring from a rocket.

They continued by revealing that such objects are designed to burn up as they re-enter the earth’s atmosphere or to fall over unoccupied areas such as the ocean. That being an isolated case, Kenya Space Agency has vowed to investigate and establish the framework under the international space law.

The agency that the residents of Mukuku Village of reporting the incident and their cooperation in ensuring public safety.

“We express our gratitude to the local leadership, the multi-agency team Makueni County Government and the media houses for disseminating this critical information in a timely manner.

We want to assure the public that the object posses no immediate threat to safety. Our experts will analyze the object, use existing frameworks to identify the owner and keep the public informed on the next steps and outcome.” read the statement.
