Four women are feared dead and 13 other people injured following an early morning stampede at Kericho Green Stadium.
The 3 am incident is reported to have happened before the gates of the stadium were opened to mark this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations.

According to the police, the incident occurred after a vendor spill tea causing panic thus the stampede of hundreds who had arrived.
“…stampede caused by a lady who was selling tea outside the stadium who accidentally spilled hot tea in the fire near gate “C” along the public road, as a result, members of public panicked and mistook it to be a teargas thrown to them,” said the police
Those injured were rushed to Kericho County Referral Hospital for treatment as the dead were also taken to the same facility’s morgue.
