Kikuyu MP and National Assembly Majority leader Kimani Ichung’wa has revealed that his net worth is close Ksh 1 billion.
The controversial MP was speaking during an Al Jazeera interview with British-American journalist Mehdi Hassan where he revealed that his wealth comes from businesses and organizations he has worked with before joininhg politics.
“That is perception. Don’t look at what someone is earning Vis-Ã -Vis others. I wasn’t born an MP, I arrived in the public scene having had another life.

I worked in other organisations before politics and did business over the years. Therefore, the perception that people in public service should not amass wealth should stop.” he said
He was speaking in response to Minority Leader Junet Mohamed’s statement in August when he claimed that his counterpart was worth over Ksh 5 billion.
In his interview Kimani Ichung’wa denied reports from human rights activists that many Kenyans have been killed and suffered under the current regime, allegations that he said were not true and that his statement should be considered right.
He also defended action by some leaders in the country flaunting their wealth in public when many Kenyans keep suffering saying that they regret their actions.
Ichung’wa also denied to have ever paid a bribe citing a past example where he was stopped by a traffic police and explained himself out of the situation.
“I have never paid a bribe in my entire life. It takes two to tango. It takes the bribe taker and the bribe giver. Why are policemen taking bribes? Because the drivers are on the wrong, maybe they’re speaking on the phone.
I have been stopped by a policeman for speeding, unfortunately, I was 19 years old. I explained myself out of the situation, you will never need to pay a bribe,” he said.
