Nine people are feared dead and 30 others sustained injuries after a matatu they were in was involved in an accident at Katangi Market on the Kitui-Machakos road.
Confirming the incident was Machakos Health Executive Daniel Yumbya who said that the matatu was a 41 seater as those confirmed dead include a 8-month old bay and a 9-year-old.
“Eight people died on the spot, and the ninth died on arrival at Machakos County Referral Hospital,” he said

Those injured were rushed to various hospital as 18 out of the 30 injured passengers were admitted at Machakos Level 5 hospital as confirmed by the County Health boss.
Eye witness confirmed that the matatu was ferrying several sacks of charcoal as 30 of them were scattered after it occured.
