Both the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) have threatened to call a nationwide teachers’ strike if TSC fails to meet six of their demands.
Speaking over the issue was KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu who said that failure by TSC to meet their demands then teachers will strike on August 26th.
“KNUT and KUPPET have today joined forces to demand the immediate resolution of the following six issues causing unrest among our members,” he said

Among the six items being demanded is the confirmation of all intern teachers to permanent and pensionable and the payment of their salaries in full as they are in arrears.
“The unions demand the immediate confirmation of all current intern teachers to permanent and pensionable terms effective July 1, 2024, and the remittance of their full salaries for the month, which are now arrears,” said Oyuu.
According to KUPPET and KNUT, TSC has allegedly misappropriated the teachers’ medical cover by by Ksh.11,899,413,833 thus cutting down their benefits b 50 percent.
Oyuu further called on the commission to promote 130,000 teachers who had already been interviewed and shortlisted.
