Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has called for the transfer of key government parastatals to the county government.
Speaking in Homa Bay county, the ODM party leader confirmed that he introduced KURA, KERRA and KENHA when he was the Minister of Roads, Housing and Public Works.
At the time, the idea worked perfectly as it was unified government but with the introduction of devolution, the former Prime Minister suggests the transfer of responsibilities to the county.
- Senate temporarily stops construction of affordable houses in Nairobi
- SHIF contributions will now start in July, says CS Nakhumicha
“I want to say this, without fear of contradiction. I was the Minister of Roads, Housing and Public Works. I am the one who introduced KURA, KERRA and KENHA but that was under a unified system of government.
With a devolved system of government, you don’t need KERRA, you need KURA. All of them should be surrendered to the county government.” he said
Raila once again praised the good work devolution has done to the country and has been vocal against alleged plans by the government to destroy.
The planned destruction have been done through planned transfer of duties to the national government something that even the Governors have disagreed with.
