Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani has on Saturday confirmed plans to hike the entrance fee of muguka in the county from Ksh 10,000 to Ksh 300,000 per lorry.
Speaking during Madaraka Day celebrations in the county, the governor noted that the changes will take effect once the County’s Finance Bill 2024/2025 is approved.
She continued by saying that the hike in price is to regulate the consumption of the crop making it very costly for the consumers.

“We have already passed the Finance bill and it is awaiting my approval for it to be a law. Anyone coming in with a lorry of Muguka will have to pay Ksh300,000,” she said
In her recent statement, Governor Fatuma Achani dismissed plans to ban entrance, distribution and sale of muguka like his counterparts in Mombasa, Kilifi and Taita Taveta but maintained that it has caused more harm than good.
“We have set the new prices to ensure that even if the crops are sold within the county, the person with no monetary ability won’t be able to purchase it,” she said
The news follows planned talks scheduled for this week between the national government and Governors from Coast region to find a solution to the muguka issue causing menace among residents.
Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has maintained his stand that the crop remains banned in the region despite alleged political forces to end the tough talk and let the business continue as usual.
