Lionel Messi extended his perfect start in Major League Soccer (MLS) registering a goal and inspired Inter Miami to lift their first ever trophy.
The clash which was decided on penalties saw Inter Miami beat Nashville 10-9 after a normal time 1-1 draw at GEODIS park.
The 11-round shootout was won by Callender who made two important saves, one against Randall Leal and the other one against Elliot Panicco, his fellow goalkeeper. The win boosted Messi’s trophy cabinet to a record 44th trophy.

In the 23rd minute the Argentine gave his side the lead when his picture perfect strike went to the top of the net registering his 10th goal of the season. Fafà Picault pulled one back for Nashville in the 53rd minute when his corner kick was deflected into the net.
Messi has an opportunity to double the lead in the 71st minute but he was unable to beat the woodwark. Sergio Busquets set another one for Leonardo Campana who was denied by the goal post.
Nashville also had a number of opportunities through Hany Mukhtar-Sam Surridge but Callender produced spectacular saves to deny them.
