A 53-year-old has been arrested after his wife, stepchildren and brother-in-law died from suspected poisoning during New Year’s eve meal.
Then prime suspect Francisco Pereira was arrested on Wednesday and held in Parnaiba, Brazil after he allegedly poisoned his family’s rice.
Among those died from the poisoning was one-year-old Igno Davi da Silva, his three-year-old sister Lauane, his 32-year-old partner Francisca Maria da Silva and Manoel, Francisca Maria’s 18-year-old brother.

The four died four days after they consumed the rice that was allegedly lased with rat poison during the New Year eve meal they consumed.
According to the police, Francisco Pereira remain the prime suspect as they suspect that must have put pesticide used for rodents in the food that also killed his partner.
They continued by saying that they suspect that Francisco might have committed murder out anger that he had towards his wife and two children.
“He revealed, as did his stepdaughters, that the relationship between them was troubled, to say the least.
He did not speak to any of his wife’s children and had a specific feeling of hatred towards Francisca Maria, the children’s mother.” said Piauà Civil Police chief Abimael Silva during a press conference.
“This feeling of hatred was so great that even with her on her deathbed, he couldn’t hide it in his statement.
“He said that when he looked at her he felt disgust and anger. These are his words in his statement.” he said
