Matatu owners have resolved not to stage a protest on Friday and instead give the government more time to address the issue.
Confirming the news was president Albert Karagacha who noted that they had met the Ministry of Transport thus the need to allow the government more time.
The news has however been criticized by the Matatu Workers Association and the Motorists Association of Kenya who have accused the association leadership of going to bed with the government.
“We call them cartels because they have remained there, you can see they are old faces who have remained within the sector and they don’t want anybody else, in fact even the younger generation to come and take that. They are in their fourth plus decade in that sector holding a stranglehold. So they are easily compromised and they are the ones who sell our causes,” said Motorists Association of Kenya Chairperson Peter Murima
Also speaking after the news were drivers and conductors who said that if things stand, then they are left with the burden of raising daily targets to issue the vehicle owners.
The news follows the government increment of the Roads Levy by Ksh 7 despite disagreement from the public who said that the plan is untenurable.
