The Ministry of Education has on Monday confirmed that they are facing hitches in the roll out of the first cohorts of Grade 9 in the country.
Through PS Belio Kipsang’ the Ministry noted that they are experiencing a shortage of classrooms and that they will have to work a way to accommodate all the learners transitioning to Grade 9 without interrupting their education.

He continued by taking note that where there will be congestion, then a multi-shift will be used to ensure one group is in class and the other outside attending to outdoor activities.
“In some situations where the congestion will not allow we can have a multi-shift within the time where when there is a class doing outdoor activity then another group can be optimizing the classroom,” he said
According to the PS, the government will require Ksh 16 billion to complete the remaining classes as at the moment only 13,500 classrooms out of the needed 16,000 classrooms have been completed.
The Ministry has also disbursed 9.9 million books meant to serve the grade cohorts in addition to 46,000 intern teachers from TSC who will work together with an addition 20,000 new teachers
The news follows allegations and concerns that the government is not prepared for the CBC curriculum following its roll out.
